So, three years after "Seaweed Gumbo", he turned up at the studio late one night, with no warning. "Smokey, man" he said, "I need to cut an album, and I need to cut it now". I pointed out that he hadn't paid me for the last one, and he assured me that this one would pay off. Reluctantly I let him in. He had the same old battered saxophone, his bongos had been mended, and he had a new guitar, which he assured me he did not steal. Luckily he was just drunk enough to get that primitive feel again, without smashing up the studio. Anyway, if you like rhythm and blues, but still don't like it too clever - this album could be just the thing for you. He still hasn't paid me.

Though he lives on the fertile plains of the Ystwyth Delta, Harpeaux had a Creole grandmother, and drank deep from an intoxicating brew of chapel singing and New Orleans rhythm and blues.
